It appears that the spirit of Cecil the Lion will indeed live on… As a taxidermy piece in Walter Palmer’s office. The beloved lion’s severed head was meticulously stuffed and mounted by award winning taxidermist, Donald Potter, at the Potter Studio of Wildlife Art in Junction City, Kansas. Palmer has been in business for over 35 years and upholds a notoriety for excellence in realistic taxidermy.
“This has been an exciting opportunity for me and my staff. I understand that there has been a bit of controversy surrounding this particular lion having been harvested. I’ll tell you what, Mr. Palmer did everything by the book, and should not be held at fault for the mistakes of others. The hypocrites and liars who want to paint him as some sort of criminal for reaping what was rightfully his should find a hobby of their own.”
Potter scoffed at the notion that Walter could be persecuted for the beloved feline’s demise. “He had no way of knowing that this was some kind of coveted animal that everyone adored. It’s ludicrous, really. There is no difference between Cecil and every other lion that roams around in Africa. Just because they gave the lion a cute name does not mean he is immune from being harvested, especially in a country where money is so scarce. It’s no wonder these hunting guides lured him out of his primary territory so that he could be hunted.”
Despite the controversy, Potter was happy to take on the task of stuffing the famous lion’s decapitated noggin, and mounting it on a hunk of beautiful polished mahogany. “It’s a really stunning piece”, he commented, as he unveiled the massive snarling head for us. “I’d go so far as to say it’s my best work to-date. I am really pleased that he will be having this one on display for his clientele to admire, as it should be! We were really able to capture his stunning majestic nature in a way that will preserve his legacy long into the future.”
There has still been no word yet as to when Cecil’s preserved head will make it’s debut in Walter Palmer’s dentistry office. “We are planning for an unveiling ceremony after this whole ruckus dies down a bit. For now Cecil will stay in my office”, Potter remarked as he firmly pats Cecil’s fearsome disconnected dome.
